Microchipping

A Simple Step That Helps Bring Pets Home

A lost pet is every family’s fear. Even the most responsible pet owners experience unexpected moments such as a slipped collar, a gate left open, or a sudden dash out the door. Microchipping gives your pet a permanent form of identification that can help bring them safely home.

At Glastonbury Veterinary Hospital, we make microchipping quick, gentle, and stress-free.

How Microchipping Pets Work

A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, placed just under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. It takes only seconds and feels similar to receiving a vaccination. Once registered, the chip links your pet to your contact information through a secure nationwide database.

If your pet is found, any veterinary hospital or shelter can scan the chip and contact you immediately.

Why Microchipping Matters

  • Collars and tags can slip off, but microchips stay with your pet for life.
  • Most shelters scan for microchips as their first step.
  • It dramatically increases the chances of being reunited.
  • No maintenance required. Just keep your contact info up to date.

Microchipping can be done at any visit, and there’s no downtime or special care afterward. It’s one of the simplest, most meaningful things you can do to protect your pet.

If your dog or cat isn’t microchipped yet, we’re here to help make it easy.
